Just a 45 minute flight from Dar Es Salaam to its own private airstrip, the Selous Safari Camp is set in the heart of the prime game viewing area in the north-eastern sector of the Selous Game Reserve on the banks of the Rufiji River close to Lake
Nzerekera.
Selous Safari Camp is well designed, professionally managed, and offers good quality game-guiding. We rate this as the second best lodge in the Selous Game Reserve, it offers good value and attracts a diversity of clientele. In 1997 Selous Safari Camp (then called Mbuyuni Luxury Tented Camp) hosted His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales and his family.

The highlight of this camp is the abundance of game which proliferates nearby - you need not necessarily leave your tent for a real African wildlife experience - the animals will often come close to you by venturing into camp during the months of August through December. This really ties in with the camp's aim for you to feel part of nature rather than to just be an observer – this is why you will not see any fences around the camp. You will be alerted on arrival, and made aware of these frequent visits by elephant and other wildlife into the camp.
Selous Safari Camp is close to the grave of Frederick Selous, the naturalist, big game hunter and explorer, after whom the Reserve was named. Rainfall
is quite reliable, so generally there is always plenty of water around -
because of this the large game species tend to stay in the area
- they will only migrate if their waterholes dry up in
the exceptionally dry seasons.

This area is highly populated with game and viewing is excellent. Elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, wild dog and antelope, among others, are all to be found here together with a spectacular variety of birds. Game-viewing by 4WD vehicle is the speciality of this camp although they also operate escorted walks and overnight flycamps for the intrepid.
