Sand Rivers lodge is beautifully situated on a wooded peninsula on the North bank of the Rufiji River in one of the most diverse and
beautiful areas of the Selous Game Reserve. Rated as one of the best lodges in Tanzania and definitely the best lodge in the Selous – you will find it classy and luxurious in a rugged kind of way. Designed in a nice open style, it takes full advantage of its elevation to provide you with a stunning setting and views.
|
Sand Rivers has its own airstrip on top of a low-lying hill on the south side of the Beho Beho mountain range, and is far away from the other camps, giving you a feeling of solitude and privacy. You may well find that flying into this camp will be your first true African experience, as the airstrip has to be ‘buzzed’ to scare the wild animals off the runway before you can land safely.
Game-viewing is a big priority at Sand Rivers, offering the highest levels of professionalism and competency that we have found anywhere – the enthusiasm and bush knowledge shown and shared by the team of expert guides is quite refreshing - and this is what sets Sand Rivers apart from the rest.

Awesome location |
With a diverse terrain consisting of steep hills, grassy plains, open woodland, marshes, lakes and dry sand rivers, the area around the lodge
attracts an impressive variety of game, birdlife and wild flowers.
With all these natural resources the lodge offers a choice of game drives, guided walks and river boat safaris.
Sand Rivers is the most expensive lodge in the Selous, but in our opinion, it offers great value for money and it is definitely well worth it - situated in probably the best position within the
Selous, here you will be treated to the ultimate experience in African wildlife - way exceeding anything that any of the other camps can offer.
Camp manager and wildlife enthusiast, Alex Hunter and his co-host
Julietta, do a first-class job of running the camp in a professional yet laid back manner.
