Kusini Camp is unique in the Serengeti, blending the modern and the traditional to recreate the feel and atmosphere of the earliest safari camps for you.
Situated in the natural curve of Mwaki Nyeb Kopjes in the Serengeti National Park, the largest game park in Africa, Kusini Camp is a luxury permanent tented camp carefully designed to have minimal impact on the environment.
Being one of only eight permanent lodges or camps within the Serengeti National Park’s 14,763 square kilometers, Kusini Camp enjoys a privileged and remote location with some of the most exclusive game viewing to be found anywhere. Kusini Camp lies in a landscape of flat-topped acacias and short grass plains. From the huge granite boulders of the Mwaki Nyeb Kopjes you can view the Gol Mountains and the famous Ngorongoro Crater in the north.

From here you can experience the most dramatic wildlife spectacle on Earth, the great annual migration of over a million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of zebra, gazelle and other game, followed of course by the inevitable predators that make the most of the moving feast at hand. This takes place during December to March. The migration passes through the area around Kusini Camp between the months of January and April. At Kusini Camp you will be directly in the path of the migration, so the impact of this once-in-a-lifetime natural spectacle is nothing short of awesome.
Between January and March you will see the arrival of newborn zebra and wildebeest calves.
Serengeti National Park is home to the greatest concentration of wild animal life in the world. The name Serengeti comes from the Maasai language meaning, 'endless plains’ and Kusini means 'south' in Kiswahili so it is not surprising that Kusini is located in the South Central area of the Serengeti National Park in the far southern Serengeti, amid a vast tract of big game country outside the main tourist circuit.

This area is noted for its lion and cheetah populations and many leopard sightings have been reported along with sightings of both Spotted and Striped Hyena and the Bat-eared Foxes. The woodland area fringing the short grass plains around the camp also has high sightings of resident game including rarer species such as klipspringer in addition to some incredible bird-life.
The temperature is comfortably hot between 10am and 5pm throughout the year but the nighttime temperatures can drop considerably. The rains occur between November and May; the heaviest rainfall is normally in April. June to October is the dry season with virtually no rain and a strong east-west wind, becoming very dry in September and October before the November rains.
