Take a step back in time to the bygone Victorian era
and experience
Africa
from the majesty Kirawira Camp. This remote outpost is
set on top of a hill with commanding views of the vast
Serengeti savannah and its teeming wildlife. This is tented luxury beyond
your dreams – here you will experience the
African wilderness in true old colonial style. The
extravagances begin on arrival when you will be
greeted with a dish of delicious treats including
fresh fruit, chocolate, sweetmeats and nuts.

The camp is all canvas and is designed to blend in with
the natural surroundings. It is located in the
Kirawira range of hills in the western corridor of the
Serengeti, and overlooks the nearby
Grumeti River
and the distant Speke's Bay which is part of
Lake Victoria
.
The camp is home to a wide variety of big game
including lion, buffalo, cheetah, wildebeest, giraffe,
baboon, and gazelle. This is the right place to be if
you want to experience the magnificent and
breathtaking migration of well over a million
wildebeest and zebra as they move towards the Maasai
Mara in search of fresh grazing and water. During
their migration they can be seen crossing the Grumeti River
in their masses – an absolutely awesome and
sometimes brutal sight as the stragglers fall prey to
the giant Grumeti crocodiles.
The Serengeti is also deservedly
famous for its lions and also is home to over five
hundred species of birds. Without
even leaving camp, one can encounter much of the
extraordinary birdlife known to the immediate area as
they frequent the strategically placed
birdbaths around the camp which were once grindstones
used by local inhabitants of old.
