Sable Mountain Lodge has 2 bars and 2 restaurants, and a brand new swimming pool fed by natural spring water. From the pool area you can view the game roaming on the hills behind the lodge.
On the west side of the camp there is a tree house which serves as a great lookout point from where you can view a waterhole which attracts thirsty nocturnal visitors such as elephant, buffalo, leopards, sable antelope and wild dogs.
The Selous is home to almost three quarters of a million wild animals including the world's largest elephant population as well as lion, wild dog, leopard, buffalo, hippo, crocodile and zebra, yet it remains one of the least visited of the great game sanctuaries on the continent. It is not surprising then that the game viewing from here is virtually guaranteed to exceed your expectations.

What really got us excited about taking a safari in this part of the Selous was the combination of the dense population of game and the extremely sparse population of other vehicles and tourists. You will hardly, if ever see another vehicle when you are out on safari – this really added an extra and thrilling dimension to our bush experience.
You may also want to take a nature walk from the lodge to take a closer look at the bird life and vegetation, or even a guided walking safari with an armed guide to experience the apprehension and excitement of tracking big game on foot.
River boat safaris are operated as part of a full day game drive to Lake Tagalala. The river boat offers great opportunities to get close to hippos and crocodiles and to observe the prolific bird life around the lake. On this excursion you will also have the opportunity of taking a dip in the hot springs.
